ETO (ethylene oxide)
- Recently, the Spices Board of India has addressed the issue of setting limits for ethylene oxide (ETO) usage in spices with CODEX, the international food standards body.
- The action follows the recall of branded spices exported by Indian companies to Hong Kong and Singapore due to concerns about ETO contamination.
- India has proposed to the CODEX committee the need to establish limits for ETO usage and to standardize ETO testing procedures.
