Controlled Re-entry Experiment of Megha-Tropiques-1
On 7th March, 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) conducted a successful controlled re-entry of its decommissioned satellite, Megha-Tropiques-1 (MT1).
- A series of 20 manoeuvres over eight months lowered the orbit of the satellite such that it re-entered the dense atmosphere and burned up.
- The entire sequence of events was carried out from the Mission Operations Complex in ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network in Bengaluru.
About Megha-Tropiques-1
- Megha-Tropiques-1 (MT1) satellite, launched jointly by ISRO and the French space agency CNES in 2011, was designed for tropical weather and climate studies.
