DNA Profiling of Captive Elephants
Recently, while celebrating the successful completion of 30 years of 'Project Elephant', the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, informed that DNA profiling of 270 of the 2,675 captive elephants in the country has been completed.
- To commemorate the occasion, the Ministry has decided to organise Gaj Utsav 2023 at Kaziranga National Park in April, 2023.
What is DNA Profiling?
- It is the process by which a specific DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) pattern, called a profile, is obtained from a person or sample of bodily tissue of organisms.
