Sittanavasal Rock-cut Cave
Recently, the Archaeological Survey of India has undertaken conservation measures and also introduced digital checks to track public access in Sittanavasal rock-cut cave, in Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu.
About Sittanavasal
- Sittanavasal is the name used synonymously for the hamlet and the hillock that houses the following-
- Arivar Koil (temple of Arhats - Jains who conquered their senses)
- Ezhadipattam (a cavern with 17 polished rock beds)
- Megalithic burial sites
- Navachunai tarn (small mountain lake) with a submerged shrine.
Arivar Koil
- On the western side of the hill, in the northern side, is the celebrated Jaina rock-cut cave temple called, Arivar-koil.
