This scheme has been launched by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It is a pilot project scheme and similar schemes will be extended to other parts of the country after its successful completion.
Objectives
To provide shelter with basic amenities such as food, clothing, recreation, medical facilities and counseling.
To safeguard the rights of Transgender persons.
To provide congenial atmosphere in the Garima Greh by adopting uniform rules and regulations
To empower transgender persons through skill-development and skill up-gradation programmes, and protect them from atrocities and social stigma
To provide skill training to connect the community members with livelihood opportunities.
Criticism and Suggestion
It is discriminatory as it only extends to the transgender community. Transgender persons are only a fraction of the entire LGBTQIA+ Community.
Benefits under the scheme should be extended to the entire LGBTQIA+ Community and must not be confined only to transgender persons.
