Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain Campaign

Ministry of Jal Shakti launched the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” program with the theme “Catch the Rain - Where it Falls When it Falls”

• Coverage: It will cover all the blocks of all districts in rural as well as urban areas across the country. The campaign will be implemented in the period from 30th March to 30th November, 2021 between the onset of monsoon rains and the end of the monsoon season.
• Nodal Agency: National Water Mission is the nodal agency for its implementation.

Features

It is aimed to start a mass movement for public participation in water conservation at the ground level.

• Gram Sabhas will be organized in the Gram Panchayats of all the districts of the country to discuss various issues related to water and water conservation.
• The campaign aims at tapping rainwater by constructing artificial recharge structures, revitalizing existing ponds and water bodies, creating new water bodies, rejuvenating wetlands etc.
• It will also create a data-base of all water bodies in the country by geo tagging them which will be used to create scientific and data-based district level water conservation plans.
