Nagar Van Scheme

The Nagar Van Scheme was launched by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on 5th June 2020 On the occasion of World Environment Day.

  • The Scheme will develop 200 Urban Forests across the country in five years (2020-25) with a renewed focus on people’s participation and collaboration between Forest Department, Municipal bodies, NGOs, Corporates and local citizens.
  • The primary aims are to create a forested area in the city and provide a healthy and wholesome living environment to the residents of the city.

Objectives

  • Creating Green space and aesthetic environment in an urban setup to extend health benefits.
  • Creating awareness about plants and biodiversity.
  • In situ conservation of important flora of a region.
  • Improving environment in the city by pollution mitigation, cleaner air, noise reduction, reduction in heat island effect etc.
  • Making cities climate resilient.

Funding: The funds for the scheme will be utilized from National CAMPA funds.
