RATS SCO Seminar on Securing Cyberspace

The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), Government of India, in association with Data Security Council of India (DSCI), as a Knowledge Partner, organised a two-day Practical Seminar on "Securing Cyberspace in the Contemporary Threat Environment” for delegates from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States.

Key Highlights

  • It addressed the key areas like policies and strategies, cyber terrorism, ransomware, and digital forensics etc.
  • It also focused on the changing nature of online crime and criminal behavior in order to understand the threats, trends, issues, responses and ethical questions associated with, mainly terrorists using technology.
  • The program examined issues related to the cyber-realm from an interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional perspective.

SCO’s Importance for India

  • Regional Security: SCO can enable India, as an integral part of the Eurasian security grouping, to neutralize threats like religious extremism and terrorism in the region.
  • Dealing with Pakistan & China: Through the SCO platform, India can constructively engage both China and Pakistan in a regional context and project its security interests.
  • Bringing Stability in Afghanistan: India has security and economic stakes in Afghanistan. SCO can serve as an alternative regional platform to stabilise the rapidly changing situation in Afghanistan.
  • Connecting with Central Asia: SCO can help India achieve the objectives of its Connect Central Asia Policy. It can catalyze efforts by India directed at reconnecting and re-energising ties with the region.
