Shahtoot Dam

At the Geneva Donors Conference on November 24, 2020, the External Minister of India proclaimed that India will construct the Shahtoot Dam across the River Maidan. River Maidan is a tributary of River Kabul in Afghanistan. The Shahtoot Dam is proposed to be built in the Chahar Asiab district near Kabul.

Benefits of Dam Project in Afghanistan

• This project will provide drinking and irrigation for Kabul province.It will supply drinking water to around 20 lakh (2 million) people in the city of Kabul.
• Project will contribute to national food security by helping in the production of fishery, crops and industries.
• The project will also promote tourism and increase opportunities of income in the country.
