United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030)

The United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030) is a global collaboration, aligned with the last ten years of the Sustainable Development Goals that brings together governments, civil society, international agencies, professionals, academia, the media, and the private sector to improve the lives of older people, their families, and the communities in which they live.

Action Areas

The decade will address four areas for action-

  • Age Friendly Environment – Removing physical and social barriers and implementing policies, systems, services, products and technologies that address the social determinants of healthy ageing.
  • Combatting Ageism – Mitigating stereotyping, prejudices and discrimination towards people on the basis of their age and ageism.
  • Integrated Care – Non-discriminatory access to good-quality essential health services that include prevention, promotion, curative, rehabilitative, palliative and end-of-life care.
  • Long-term Care – Access to good quality long-term care to maintain their functional ability, enjoy basic human rights and live with dignity.
