5G Launch in India

The Prime Minister launched 5G Services in India on October 01, 2022 and also inaugurated the 6^th Edition of India Mobile Congress 2022 (IMC-2022) at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

• Like other global players, India had, in 2018, planned to start 5G services as soon as possible, with an aim to capitalise on the better network speeds and strength that the technology promised.

About 5G Technology: 5G or fifth generation is the latest upgrade in the long-term evolution (LTE) mobile broadband networks.

• It is the new global wireless standard after 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G networks.
• It mainly works in three bands, namely low, mid and high frequency spectrum - all of which have their own uses as well as limitations.
• This new technology enables a network that is designed to connect everyone and everything together including machines, objects and devices.
• In the high-band spectrum of 5G, Internet speed has been tested to be as high as 20 gigabits per second (Gbps).
