NSM Deploys Super-computer Param Ganga

Recently, under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), “PARAM Ganga”, a supercomputer was installed at IIT Roorkee, with a computing capacity of 1.66 Petaflops.

Significance of NSM: The mission will facilitate supercomputing in various national academic and R&D institutions across the country and meet the ever-increasing computational demands. This will empower scientists and researchers in carrying out cutting edge research.

  • These supercomputers- with many sub-systems manufactured and microprocessors designed in India- will find application in a wide range of domains like weather and climate, computational biology, atomic energy simulations, big data analytics, national security, disaster management simulation and management among others.
  • It will augment India’s scientific and technological capabilities and help address multiple challenges.
  • NSM will help achieve global competitiveness and ensure self-reliance in supercomputing technology, thus giving the country a strategic edge.
