Garima Greh Scheme

This scheme has been launched by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It is a pilot project scheme and similar schemes will be extended to other parts of the country after its successful completion.

Aim: The main aim of Garima Greh is to provide shelter to transgender persons with basic amenities like food, medical care and recreational facilities. Besides, it will provide support for the capacity-building/skill development of Transgender persons. These shelters will be run by transgender community-led organisations.

Objectives: To provide shelter with basic amenities such as food, clothing, recreation, medical facilities and counseling.

  • To safeguard the rights of Transgender persons.
  • To provide congenial atmosphere in the Garima Greh by adopting uniform rules and regulations
  • To empower transgender persons through skill-development and skill up-gradation programmes, and protect them from atrocities and social stigma
  • To provide skill training to connect the community members with livelihood opportunities.
