It is a restructured form of Indira Awas Yojana, launched in 1996 to address housing needs of the rural areas. It is a centrally sponsored scheme which comes under the ambit of Ministry of Rural Development.
Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) was launched in 2016 which aims to achieve the objective "Housing for All" by providing 2.95 Crore pucca houses with basic amenities by convergence with other Schemes to all houseless households and households living in kutcha and dilapidated house in rural areas by 2024.
