The notion of man’s dependence on nature is deeply ingrained in the Indian philosophy. But with the global focus on economic development, ‘environment’ shifted down the priority list of policies and programmes. It did not take long, however, for the world to realise that human well-being in future is solely dependent on the inter-relationship between environment and the economy.
