Jagannath Puri and Konark Sun Temple
Why in News?
- These two famous temples were partially destroyed during the Cyclone Fani catastrophe, which hit the Odisha coast on 3rd May, 2019.
- On 10th May, 2019, a high level team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) visited Odisha to assess the nature and quantum of damage caused by cyclone Fani toJagannath,Puri and Sun Temple, Konark.
Jagannath Temple
- Located in the holy city of Puri (Odisha), Jagannath Temple was built by King Ananta VarmanChodaganhadeva of Ganga dynasty in 12th century. Although, his grandson Ananga Bhimadeva completed the construction of the temple.
