UNSC Resolution 2462 to Combat and Criminalize Terrorist Financing
- The UN Security Council has adopted the Resolution 2462 that calls upon countries to prevent and counter the financing of terrorism, especially in its new forms.
- The Resolution is significant considering the spate of terrorist attacks around the world like the Pulwama attack, the New Zealand and Sri Lankan attacks etc.
- Resolution 2462 notes that terrorists may abuse legitimate businesses and non-profit organizations for their activities, and make use of emerging payment methods, such as prepaid cards and mobile payments or virtual assets; hence it intends to update existing resolutions and adapt them to new forms of financing of terrorism.
