New AI-based Tool to detect Cancer Causing Mutations
Recently, scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras developed an Artificial Intelligence-based mathematical model (algorithm) called NBDriver (neighbourhood driver) to identify cancer-causing mutations in cells.
NBDriver
- Mutations that offer a selective growth advantage to the cancer cells, and thus promote cancer development, are termed ‘driver’ mutations, whereas those that do not are termed ‘passenger’ mutations.
- One of the major challenges faced by cancer researchers involves the differentiation between the relatively small number of driver mutations and the large number of passenger mutations.
- The nature of a mutation depends on its neighbourhood (the context). NBDriver, by studying the neighbourhoods of mutations ....
