The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986
The Environment (Protection) Act of 1986 empowers the federal government to safeguard and improve environmental quality, control and decrease pollution from all sources, and prohibit or restrict the establishment and/or operation of any industrial facility based on environmental considerations.
- The Environment (Protection) Act was passed in 1986 with the goal of ensuring environmental protection and enhancement.
- It authorises the Central Government to create authorities tasked with preventing all forms of environmental contamination and addressing specific environmental issues that are unique to different sections of the country. The last time the Act was changed was in 1991.
