Environmental Flows (E-flows) Monitoring System
On 13th June 2024, the Jal Shakti Ministry launched an Environmental flows (E-flows) Monitoring System that allows real-time monitoring of river quality.
Rationale
- The Union Government, through its Gazette Notification dated 9th October, 2018, mandated minimum E-flow for various stretches of the Ganga River to be maintained year-round.
- In the same notification, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) laid down the flow specifications essential for preserving the river's ecological balance, safeguarding aquatic life, and ensuring sustainability amidst diverse water usage demands.
