Supreme Court Mandates Self-Declaration by Advertisers
On 3rd June, 2024, the Supreme Court (SC) directed all advertisers and advertising agencies to obtain a “Self-Declaration Certificate” before releasing any new advertisements on various platforms like print, digital media, TV and radio.
Matter of Concern
- The SC gave the directives after hearing the case of Indian Medical Association & Anr. vs. Union of India & Ors.
- This case was brought forth by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), highlighting the rampant issue of misleading advertisements, particularly in the health and wellness sector.
