The origin of Indian monsoon was explained by different geographers with different models and theories. But largely these theories are categorised into two groups: Classical theories and Recent theories.
(a) Classical Theories
- Thermal Concept of Halley: According to it, the genesis of monsoon is due to the seasonal reversal of winds. The reversal occurs due to unequal heating of land and Ocean and accordingly monsoon is a gigantic scale Land and Sea Breeze.
