International Efforts to Conserve Biodiversity
As the importance of conserving biodiversity came to the fore, many international conventions and treaties came into force to protect precious life resources of the world. The thrust has been provided by the International Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), part of Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The convention was signed by 152 nations committing that by law to adopt ways and means of conserving biodiversity and to ensure equity of benefits from biological diversity.
