Air Quality Management: Implementation of NCAP
Air pollution remains one of India’s most persistent environmental and public health crises. According to WHO (2023), 14 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are in India, with PM2.5 concentrations exceeding safe limits several times over. Recognizing the scale of the challenge, the Government of India launched the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in 2019, a comprehensive strategy aimed at improving air quality through targeted reduction in pollutants, institutional coordination, and citizen participation.
