Bangladesh Requests India to Extradite Ousted Former PM
On 25th November 2025, Bangladesh’s interim government sent a formal diplomatic note (note verbale) to India requesting the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been residing in exile in India since 5th August.
Bangladesh’s Request for Extradition
- The request follows a letter from Bangladesh’s Home Adviser to the foreign ministry, initiating the process under the existing India-Bangladesh extradition treaty.
- Former Prime Minister fled the country amid student-led protests that ended her 16-year tenure and has since been living at a military airbase near New Delhi.
