Ghoomar: Traditional Folk Dance of Rajasthan
On 19th November 2025, Ghoomar Festival was organised by the state government across all seven divisional headquarters in Rajasthan.
About Ghoomar
Meaning
- The term Ghoomar comes from the word “ghoomna,” which refers to twirling or spinning, which is the main feature of the dance.
Origin
- Ghoomar originated as a folk dance of the Bhil tribe, who performed it to worship Goddess Sarasvati.
- Over time, it was adopted by various other communities across Rajasthan.
Performance
- The dance is performed by women wearing flowing and colorful skirts known as ghaghara.
