India’s labour force is more than a statistic; it is the engine that drives the country’s growth, dignity and development. Yet outdated regulations, fragmented protections and shifting work patterns have long strained this delicate balance.
India’s labour landscape is transforming rapidly, with employment rising from 47.5 crore to 64.33 crore between 2017-18 and 2023-24, unemployment falling to 3.2%, and over 1.56 crore women entering the formal workforce. To support this progress, the Government has consolidated 29 labour laws into four modern Labour Codes: on Wages, Industrial Relations, Social Security, and Occupational Safety and Health.
