Genome India Project: Unlocking India's Genetic Diversity
- Recently, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has announced that it has completed sequencing of 10,000 Indian genomes under the 'Genome India Project'.
- Its Phase 1 is funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) to sequence at least 10,000 Indian genomes.
- The ambitious 'Genome India Project' (GEP) was launched by DBT on 3 January 2020.
- It is led by the Center for Brain Research of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and involves a collaboration of 20 institutions.
- The Genome India Project aims to develop predictive diagnostic indicators for several high priority diseases and other uncommon genetic disorders.
