Capital Gains Tax
- In Budget 2019, Long Term Capital Gains (LTCG) from sale of housing property has been exempted from tax if capital gains are invested in a startup. To facilitate this, the Sunset Clause has been extended till 31st March, 2021.
- The tax levied on the profit or gain earned on selling capital assets is called capital gains tax.
- Depending on the holding period, capital gains tax can be Long term Capital Gains Tax (LTCG) or Short term Capital Gains Tax (STCG).
