India-Myanmar: Scrapping ‘Free Movement Regime’
On 20th January, 2024, during a passing out parade of Assam police commandos in Guwahati, Union Home Minister announced plans to fence the 1,643 km India-Myanmar border.
Additionally, he mentioned India’s intention to review the Free Movement Regime (FMR) agreement with Myanmar to prevent border residents from crossing into each other's country without the necessary paperwork.
