Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE) Programme
The Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE) programme was established by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) at the 10th Conference of the Parties (COP10).
- It is an international collaboration that measures the levels, trends, and causes of elephant mortality, providing an information base to support international decision-making related to the conservation of elephants in Asia and Africa.
- In Asia, there are currently 28 sites taking part in the MIKE programme, spread across 13 nations.
- Of these, India has the most sites with 10, followed by two each in Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, ....
