Indian National Congress (INC)
In 1885, A.O. Hume, a retired civil servant invited many Indian leaders regarding the Indian cause, and he laid the foundation of the ‘Indian National Union’.
- But, after the suggestion of Dadabhai Naoroji, its name was changed to ‘Indian National Congress.’
- The 1st meeting of the INC was held on 28th December 1885 in Gokaldas Tejpal Sanskrit College, Bombay, which was presided over by W.C. Banerjee and attended by 100 men of whom 72 were non-official and were recognized as members.
