Thousands of students left government schools and colleges and joined national school and colleges.
- It was at this time that the Jamia Millia Islamia (National Muslim University) of Aligarh, the Bihar Vidyapith, the Kashi Vidyapith and the Gujarat Vidyapith came into existence. The Jamia Millia later shifted to Delhi.
- Acharya Narendra Dev, Dr. Zakir Husain and Lala Lajpat Rai were among the many distinguished teachers at these national colleges and universities.
- The Tilak Swarajya Fund was started to finance the Non-cooperation movement and within six months, over a crore of rupees were subscribed.
