Local Communities as Pillars of Green Governance
Green governance implies decision-making processes that integrate sustainability, environmental justice, and participatory approaches. In India, local communities have historically played a central role in managing forests, water, and biodiversity through traditional practices. From Chipko movement (1970s) to current biodiversity management committees (BMCs), community-led stewardship has proven crucial for balancing ecological sustainability with livelihood security.
