Revision of Air & Water Pollution Control Laws
Recently, Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024 has been adopted by several states, lifting imprisonment for minor water pollution violations in favour of fines, and the Supreme Court has reinforced the powers of pollution control boards to impose compensatory damages under the Air and Water Acts—both developments marking a shift in environmental governance.
