Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission

It was launched in 2011 by Ministry of Rural Development as a restructured form of Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana. It aims at reducing poverty by enabling poor to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage unemployment opportunities.

  • It is based on following parameters – Building community support, Access to financial services & skill upgradation. Following schemes have been undertaken to ensure the same –

1. Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY)

  • It was included as a sub-mission in 2017. It aims at providing self-employment under NRLM by facilitating poor to operate public transport services in backward areas.

2. Startup Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP)

  • It aims at promoting startup/entrepreneurial environment. It targets all components of start-up environment i.e. building knowledge hub, providing adequate finances etc.

3. Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY)

  • Launched as an independent mission in 2011 to impart job related skills in rural youth, it was submerged in NRLM in 2014.

Achievements: It currently has over 1,575 projects being implemented by over 717 partners, in more than 502 trades from 50 industry sectors. Over 9.9 Lakh candidates have been trained and over 5.3 Lakh candidates have been placed in jobs as on 1st April, 2020. From 2012, DDU-GKY has so far committed an investment of more than INR 5,600 Crores, impacting rural youth pan-India.
