India’s Largest Floating Solar Power Project

India’s largest floating solar power plant was commissioned by The National Thermal Power Corporation on the reservoir of its Simhadri thermal station in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. It has a total capacity of 25MW. It is the first solar project to be set up under the Flexibilisation Scheme, notified by the Government of India in 2018.

Benefits

  • It will generate electricity from more than 1 lakh solar PV modules, which will improve access to electricity in the region by lighting around 7,000 households.
  • It is being estimated that it will prevent generation of 46,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CO2e) every year during its. It is also expected to save 1,364 million litres of water per annum, which is adequate to meet the yearly water requirements of 6,700 households in the region.
