Institute of Eminence (IoE) Scheme

It was announced in Budget 2016-17 with the objective to empower the higher educational institutions and to help them become world class teaching and research institutions. 10 public and 10 private institutions were identified to emerge as world class teaching and research institutions.

• If an institute or university is granted IoE status, they’ll be entitled for more autonomy, both administratively and academically and it will ensure better collaborations with global universities.
• Public universities/institutes under the programme would be given 1000 crore as grant but no such grant would be provided to private universities.
• The plan encompasses 20 institutions, 12 of which have already been declared Institutes of Eminence as of 2021.
