Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University in Aligarh on 14th September, 2021.

About Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh

  • He was born into a royal family in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh in 1886. He was an alumnus of the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental Collegiate School later called Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He is popularly known as "Aryan Peshwa".

Freedom Struggle

  • He took part in Gandhi’s campaign in South Africa, in 1913.
  • He set up the first Provisional Government of India from Afghanistan in 1915, declaring himself as the President.
  • In 1909, he gave his own residence in Mathura to convert it into a technical school named Prem Mahavidyalaya. It is said to have been the country’s first polytechnic.
