A fund namely ‘Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh’ (RRSK) has been created in 2017-18 with a corpus of Rs. 1 lakh crore over a period of five years for critical safety related works.
The details of works to be executed through Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh (RRSK) includes - Track works, Bridge rehabilitation, elimination of LC/ROB/RUB/Subways, Train Protection & Warning System, Train Collision Avoidance System, Coach Design & Maintenance, Diesel Locomotive maintenance, Replacement of overaged traction distribution assets, Human Resource Development etc.
The government has spent more than five thousand crores from RRSK in the 1st 6 months of 2018. The investments in railways have been scaled up by almost three times in 2019-20 from 2013-14.
