SRESHTA (Special Railway Establishment for Strategic Technology and Holistic Advancement), is the new entity, created by government in 2016 that comprises mostly scientists and railway experts.
Earlier, Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) had a sole responsibility for technology upgradation for railways but now, RDSO focuses only on day-to-day issues, while SRESTHA is responsible for long-term research for improving the functioning of the public sector behemoth.
