SURYAMITRA & Skill Development Programme

It is a scheme initiated by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, to provide skill training to rural youth in handling solar installations. The scheme aims to create skilled manpower in commissioning, installation, O&M of solar power plants and equipment. It primary objective is to provide entrepreneurship and employability opportunities to rural and urban youth & women.

  • The programme is 100% funded by GOI and implemented by National Institute for Solar Energy (NISE) across the country.
  • The scheme has a target of 50,000 technicians by March, 2020. Till March 2019, NISE has trained 31,000 Suryamitras across the country and NISE is committed to achieve the target by March 2020.
  • Also, the ministry has launched “Surya Mitra” mobile App at National Workshop on Rooftop Solar Power, in 2016. The app is developed by NISE.
