Hong Kong Crisis
- Hundreds of thousands of protesters dressed in white marched in the streets of Hong Kong on 9th June to protest against the government’s extradition bill. Protesters included people from the business community, lawyers, students, members of religious groups andeven housewives. This is the biggest gathering of protesters in Hong Kong since the Umbrella Revolution of 2014.
Why the protests erupted against extradition bill ?
- The amendments to the extradition bill would allow suspects accused of crimes such as murder and rape to be extradited to mainland China to face trial.
