The Ministry of Tourism organised a Buddhist Circuit Train Familiarization Tour and Conference in the first week of October, which covered the prominent Buddhist sites, under Swadesh Darshan Scheme.

- Bodh Gaya (Bihar): He attained Enlightenment
- Sarnath (Uttar Pradesh): Place of his first sermon
- Nalanda (Bihar): World’s first learning place
- Rajgir (Bihar): Buddha spent several months meditating
- Sravasti (Uttar Pradesh): Place he taught many of his Suttas
- Vaishali (Bihar): Buddha delivered his last sermon
