Why in News?
- After the start of 1st phase of general election on 11th April, a number of top political leaders including UP’s CM Yogi Adityanath, Mayawati, etc, were banned by the Election Commission of India for violating model code of conduct.
What is Model of Code of Conduct (MCC)?
- The MCC is a document from the Election Commission of India(ECI) that lays down the minimum standards of behaviour for political parties and their candidates contesting elections, by defining their dos and don’ts in the electoral battle.
