Health Ministry Releases Draft National Policy for Rare Diseases 2020
On 13th January, the central government released a draft National Policy for Rare Diseases 2020. The Ministry of Health had formulated a National Policy for Treatment of Rare Diseases (NPTRD) in July 2017. But given the challenges in implementing the policy, a decision was taken to reframe the NPTRD and an Expert Committee was constituted by the Ministry in November 2018 to review it.

- Government to fund one-time treatment cost to the tune of Rs 15 lakh for certain treatable rare diseases, provided the patient is eligible under Ayushman Bharat’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
