India’s First Snow Leopard Conservation Centre
- Uttarakhand is all set to develop India’s first Snow Leopard Conservation Centre in Uttarkashi forests.
- It will be built at the entry point of Gangotri National Park above 2800 meters sea level.
Key Features
- The centre will be developed by the Uttarakhand forest department along with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Netherland.
- Built under the 'SECURE Himalaya' scheme, the primary goal of setting up this centre is conservation and restoration of Himalayan ecosystems and creating livelihood.
- It also aims at conservation of elusive snow leopards and various other endangered Himalayan species.
