Parliament Passes Juvenile Justice Amendment Bill 2021
On 28th July, 2021, Parliament passed the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill, 2021, which seeks to amend the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
It also aims at strengthening the provisions on protection and adoption of children.
Need
- Significant Delay in Adoption Process: The 2015 Act provides that the adoption proceedings shall be disposed of by the court within a period of two months from the date of filing of an application. But it was observed that there was significant delay in finalisation of adoption cases in courts.
