Biodiversity Governance
- Three-tier biodiversity governance structure:
- National: National Biodiversity Authority (NBA)
- State/UT: State Biodiversity Boards (SBBs) and Union Territory Biodiversity Councils (UTBCs)
- Local: Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs)
Legal & Policy Framework
- Biological Diversity Act, 2002 (amended in 2023) serves as India's principal biodiversity legislation.
- National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP 2024–2030) aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
- India submitted:
- Seventh National Report (NR-7) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
- First National Report (NR-1) on implementation of the Nagoya Protocol.
Forests & Protected Areas
- Total forest and tree cover: 8.27 lakh sq km.
- Covers 25.17% of ....
