NASA’s New Earth Space Mission Maps Methane ‘Super-Emitters’
Recently, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) informed that its Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) mission has identified more than 50 methane “super-emitters”. EMIT was installed in July aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Key Points
- EMIT: NASA’s Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) mission is intended to map the prevalence of key minerals in the planet’s dust-producing deserts by measuring the wavelengths of light reflected from the surface soil in those areas. This information will advance our understanding of airborne dust’s effects on climate.
- Super-Emitters: EMIT, an imaging spectrometer, has identified more than 50 methane “super-emitters” ....
